Electric propulsion, Fundamentals

40,00

This course is the first in a series of four on the subject of electric propulsion. STCW 2010 requires OOW engineers to have knowledge of electrical motors and starting technologies, and need to be able to detect faults.

Discussing electrical fundamentals and power factors, this course allows users to recognize electrical elements and storage, whilst highlighting the behavior of electric currents used in propulsion systems on a vessel.

Learning objectives:

  • Recognize the basic electrical elements and understand how they behave in alternating current (AC) systems
  • Know how power factor affects the performance of AC electrical systems and its particular relevance to some propulsion systems
  • Recognize electromagnetism and its importance to operation of electrical machines
