Common areas for slips, trips and falls are the galley, wet decks and stairways. Open gratings, ladders, poorly lit areas and working aloft also pose hazards, and the risk is increased when two or more of these are combined.

Purpose of this course is to raise awareness of slips, trips and falls, explain common incident types and identify common preventative safety techniques.

Learning objectives:

  • Define ‘slips, trips and falls’ within the context of accidents onboard ship
  • Identify where the risks of slips, trips and/or falls are commonly at their greatest
  • Increase their awareness of the risk of slips, trips and falls onboard ship
  • Establish the relationship between effective risk management and a reduced incidence of slips, trips and falls
