ECDIS, Pilotage and berthing

Mistakes can cause vessels to ground or collide with fixed objects. When this happens, costs for the vessel owner and the port authority can be substantial, not to mention unwanted damage to the vessel and the company’s reputation.

ECDIS is available to assist the bridge team when monitoring the vessel, but accident reports have identified that it is either not used or it is not used effectively.

This course highlights how ECDIS should be set-up and used in pilotage areas. When utilized to its full capability, ECDIS is a very useful tool to assist the bridge team in monitoring a vessel in confined waters, whilst also helping with berthing operations.
