Personal Safety

55,00

In this course many of the initiatives and procedures that are in place to increase the safety of seafarers are reviewed, but emphasis is given to what ourselves choose to do that keep us and everyone else safe.

When accidents and injuries happen, there were often good procedures in place, but personal choices can make a big difference.

Despite the implementation of the ISM Code, accidents and injuries continue to happen. Recent high profile incidents show that even when there are good procedures in place, the safety culture on board the ship and the personal choices people make, can mean the difference between staying safe or causing an accident.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • “Safety culture” meaning and how to be part of the personal safety on board
  • Identify the importance of shipboard familiarization
  • The importance of reporting accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Recognize that the procedures of ISM Code for safe work must be available onboard and must be followed
  • Recognize the main sources of rules that are in place to protect the seafarer, but know that personal safety is their own responsibility
