Tanker fire-fighting

Until now the MCA certification for Tanker training has only been available within the UK. With the covid situation, MCA has opened up for a more flexible approach where the theoretical knowledge about tanker fire-fighting can be covered by e-learning.

The main aim of this course is to cover the MNTB tanker fire-fighting theory requirement and it is normally completed in connection with the Tanker training courses.

Learning objectives:

• Describe typical tanker fire response & firefighting organization & procedures
• Describe spill containment in relation to fire-fighting operations
• Understand the special hazards of noxious liquid substances (NLS’s)& gases compared to oil tanker cargoes
• Identify the special hazards associated with cargo handling and transportation of hazardous and noxious liquids and liquefied gases in bulk
• Understand how fire fighting strategy can be affected due to the potential hazards of NLS’s & gas carrier cargoes
• Describe the correct fire-fighting agents used to extinguish oil, chemical & liquefied gas fires
• Know the correct fire-fighting agents used to extinguish, oil, chemical & liquefied gas fires & the use of fixed deck fire-fighting equipment including dry powder & foam
