Electric propulsion, Electrical machines

40,00

Rotating electrical machines are used to convert energy from electrical to mechanical form, or vice versa, all around a vessel. This is why it is essential that crewmembers working with these systems have an excellent understanding when detecting faults and carrying out general maintenance.

This course is the second in a series of four on the subject of electric propulsion. STCW 2010 requires OOW engineers to have knowledge of electrical motors and starting technologies, and need to be able to detect faults.

Knowing how electrical machines convert one form of energy to another, including familiarity with the construction and operation of direct current and synchronous 3 phase electrical machines, this training course focuses on electric propulsion.

Learning objectives:

  • Know how electrical machines convert one form of energy to another
  • Be familiar with the construction and operation of asynchronous 3 phase electrical machines
  • Be familiar with the construction and operation DC electrical machines
  • Be familiar with the construction and operation of synchronous 3 phase electrical machines
