This course is for management level and looks at elements such as how to organize and train a firefighting team onboard, know-how of firefighting onboard as well as investigating and report writing of incidents involving fire.

The tactics used to fight a fire depend on its location and the prevailing hazards. In the last of two e-learning modules for Advanced Firefighting, we look at the hazards that arise when fighting a fire and how we can eliminate or reduce the risks from them. We also look at the different tactics that are most suited to different locations on board the ship.

This module can be used to accompany initial training or to refresh Advanced Firefighting knowledge onboard ship.

Learning objectives:

  • List the hazards that can be present during firefighting and the methods of eliminating or reducing them
  • Plan realistic fire drills that enable crew to practice the firefighting techniques needed to deal with fires in different locations on board ship
