Mooring, Management of lines

40,00

Having safe mooring lines is a fundamental requirement for the safety of the vessel and the marine environment. When lines fail there can be very serious outcomes to the vessel, its crew and very often the marine environment. It is no longer acceptable to have mooring lines on board without managing them.

Mooring, Management of lines, the second module in Seagull Maritime’s mooring series, guides the learner on the importance of mooring line management and a line management plan. Showing the various ways that lines are damaged during use, the module offers guidance on day-to-day care and when to retire lines, as well as further information on protecting certain line materials from being damaged by ship’s equipment. The module follows the advice in MEG4 and contains an explanation of the terms introduced by it.

Learning objectives:

  • Recognize that mooring lines need to be managed
  • Identify when parts of a mooring line need to be retired
  • Identify terms associated with mooring lines from MEG 4
  • Identify how mooring lines should be cared for
