Mooring, Risk assessment and management

40,00

Formal risk assessments are essential to protect crew, but being aware of the personal risks associated with a mooring operation will increase the safety of those involved. A well-trained crew should constantly look out for hazards, and you should be encouraged to react in a safety-based way when you encounter one. This should not slow the operation, but improve safety and effectiveness, as it is more likely to reinforce the ‘stop and think’ policy.

The aim of this course is to promote safety on the mooring deck. By reinforcing to the learner that the mooring deck is a dangerous place and that they should always have situational awareness during a mooring operation, the module discusses the hazards found on deck, their associated risks, and how outside influences, such as environmental and tug forces, increase the danger. There is also information on powered and un-powered deck equipment safely.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify the hazards and associated risks that can be present during mooring operations
  • Recognize when the mooring deck is free from avoidable hazards and therefore ready for conducting mooring operations
