Container ships, Introduction to operation

When sailing on container ships for the first time, junior officers and crewmembers must have a general understanding of how these vessels are operated in order to familiarize themselves with cargo related duties. This e-learning module features superb 3D animations that create a positive learning experience, as well as presenting subject matter that is expanded upon in the future modules in Seagull’s ground-breaking Container Ship series.

This informative course provides officers and crewmembers with the essential basic information about the container trade and cargo operations. Supplying the learner with essential underpinning knowledge, we also highlight the different types of purpose-built ships and the various types of containers they carry on board.

Learning objectives:

• On completion of this module, the learner will know how container ships and trade has evolved, types of container ships and containers that are in use. They will also know the basic planning required for loading, discharging, stowage and securing of containers and become conversant with routines followed by watch keepers in ports.
