Engine room emergencies, Recovery from a blackout

30,00

Although ships should have written procedures for actions in the event of a blackout, experience shows that the nature of a sudden complete loss of electrical power can lead to an initial period of confusion. This delays the recovery of vital systems and can put the ship at risk.

The main aim of this course is to prepare the learner to take the correct actions in the event of an unexpected complete loss of electrical power (blackout) and to encourage them to think about the specific actions needed for this on their ship.

Learning objectives:

  • Take the correct initial actions in the event of a blackout
  • Identify the generic steps to recover from a blackout situation
  • Recognize the need to use procedures and work as a team during a blackout
  • Maintain the correct communications during a blackout
  • Recognize the need to be ready to respond to a blackout if power management systems do not operate correctly
