Oil record book part 1

55,00

Every oil tanker of 150 gross tonnage and above and every ship of 400 gross tonnage and above other than an oil tanker shall be provided with an Oil Record Book Part I (Machinery space operations). The Oil Record Book, whether as a part of the ship’s official log-book or otherwise, shall be in the form specified in appendix III to this Annex.

Around one quarter of MARPOL deficiencies found during Port State Control inspections relate to oil record book entries. Most often these are made in Part I of the oil record book – used to record machinery space operations. This course explains the way to record a wide variety of operations following the IMO guidance – including handling of bilge water and sludge, bunkering and fuel tank ballast operations. Several common sources of oil record book mistakes are highlighted, together with the IMO recommended way of making corrections.

Learning objectives:

  • You will know the possible penalties for incorrect oil record book entries
  • You will learn the MARPOL rules on access and retention of oil record books
  • You will learn how to fill out the general information at the front of the oil record book
  • You will recognize the general requirements for entries in oil record books
