Communication is an essential part of human interaction, having an effect on all aspects of personal and professional lives. With an increasing number of multinational crews worldwide, the lack of effective communication from maritime leaders has a negative effect on operations, morale and safety on board the vessel, often leading to accidents.

For seafarers of various nationalities on board ships, which do trade around the world, effective communication among the seafarers themselves and between ship and shore is critically important. This module presents the basic concepts and theories, effective communication techniques, and the practical applications on board the ship.
