Pilot Interface

Pilots can assist the bridge team and provide vital information about the local port and its services, which is why you should always see a pilot as a very useful addition. Successfully integrating a pilot into the bridge team promotes safer navigation, and it can also prevent unnecessary accidents. But not done properly, the presence of a pilot can increase the risk to a vessel and everyone on board.

The main aim of this course is to promote effective integration of a Pilot into the Bridge Team.

Learning objectives:

• Define the role and responsibilities of the Pilot with respect to the Bridge Team
• Define the role and responsibilities of each individual member of the Bridge Team when a Pilot is aboard
• Utilize the information that the Pilot will contribute to a Bridge operation
• Effectively utilize integration techniques and procedures
