RORO, Vehicle Deck Fire Safety

30,00

There have been several incidents involving vehicle and reefer fires on the car decks of RoRo and RoPax vessels over the years. It is so important that deck crew and officers checking in vehicles and patrolling vehicle decks know what to look for and recognize the signs fire or heating. Officers and crew must also be able to react quickly and decisively to deal with a car deck fire, should it occur.

The main aim of this module is to give the deck officer and crew members involved in duties relating to vehicle deck safety, the knowledge to not only reduce the risk of fire but to be able to take quick and appropriate action if a fire is discovered.

This module would provide (a) the necessary knowledge for an officer or crew member to know what to look for and to recognize the signs of fire, and (b) knowing how to react if a fire should develop, will go a long way to be more effective when fire patrolling and screening as well as reacting accordingly to a fire, should it occur.

Learning objectives:

  • The learner will be able to recognize the cargo is a hazard that can present a significant risk of fire in RoRo vehicle decks
  • The learner will be able to identify how and where fires usually start, as well as the fire hazards and the procedures required to reduce fire risk when receiving vehicles and cargo units onboard and carrying out fire patrols
  • They will be able to list the actions to take in the event of a fire
