Effective lifeboat drills

No matter what the cause, if you have to abandon ship, it is imperative that everyone is properly trained and ready to act. It’s too late to learn that drills have been ineffective in the middle of an emergency.

The speed and efficiency of response can be the difference between losing lives and safe disembarkation for everyone.

The main aim for this course will be to emphasize the importance of regular realistic lifeboat drills and describe the key elements that may be used to plan, conduct and evaluate effective lifeboat drills on board ship.

Learning objectives:

• Understand why it is important to conduct abandon ship/lifeboat drills regularly, and as if there were a real emergency
• Understand how to plan, conduct and evaluate effective abandon ship/lifeboat drills
