ISO 14001 Environmental management

ISO 14001:2015 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and can be certified to. It maps out a framework that a company or organization can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. It can be used by any organization regardless of its activity or sector.

The purpose of this training program is to make the student familiar with the ISO 14001 Standard for Environmental Management. The student will be given knowledge and understanding of the requirements, purpose and intention.

Learning objectives:

• You will identify the purpose of ISO 14001 and outline what it requires an organization to do
• Understand the threats to the environment from shipping
• Realize what you can do onboard your vessel to protect the environment
• You will identify the essential terms and definitions used in ISO 14001
• Recognize what is meant by the term ‘the environment’ as used in ISO 14001
